Lessons from the Life of Sarah 👩‍🦰

Genesis 18:9‭-‬14

⁹ They asked him, "Where is your wife Sarah?" And he said, "She is in the tent."

¹⁰ The Lord said, "I will surely return to you at this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son." Now Sarah was listening at the entrance of the tent, which was behind him.

¹¹ Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years, and Sarah had stopped having the way of women.

¹² So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, "After I am worn out and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?"

¹³ The Lord said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Shall I really have a child, now that I am old?'

¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for the Lord? At the appointed time, I will return to you, at this time next year, and Sarah will have a son."

Can you believe it? Sarah was barren and advanced in age, with no hope of having a child. But she gave birth to Isaac. That was indeed a miracle. The birth of Jesus Christ was also a miracle, as He was born to a virgin!

When Sarah was told she would have a son, she laughed because it was humanly impossible for her to give birth at that age. We should always remember one thing: God's ways are different. He works in ways we can never imagine. He is a Lord who performs miracles. All you have to do is trust in Him and pray to Him.

Takeaway:

Believe in the One who can perform miracles.

Always trust Him, for nothing is impossible with God.

📖 Verse for the day: 📖

Luke 1:37

"For nothing will be impossible with God."

The 1st thing that we read about Sarah in the bible is that she is the wife of Abraham and that she was barren and had no child.(Genesis 11: 30)

During those times, bearing children was considered a blessing and hence women who were barren suffered deep shame. People believed barrenness was a result of some hidden sin or flaw.

Sarah would also have gone through this mental pain and agony. She had to face the shame and insult just because she was barren.

In our lives too, there can be certain things that bring shame or pain. These may not be because of our deeds or actions. Some are born blind, some are born physically handicapped, disabled and so on. They did nothing wrong to be born that way. If you are also searching for an answer why certain things are the way they are in your life, just see the life of Sarah.

When we look into the life of Sarah, we can see how God turned her barrenness into a blessing. The name of the Lord was glorified through her when she gave birth to Isaac. She became the mother of nations and kings of people came from her.

(Gen 17: 16)

So let's always remember that, God has given these small thorns in our lives for the glory of God. God knows each and every problem that's there in our lives. He knows our weaknesses. And yes, He can ultimately turn them into blessings.

Take away:

¶ Instead of grumbling, let us use what we have for the glory of God.

¶ Let us trust in the Lord. He is the one who can turn all things for our good.

Verse for the day:

📖 Romans 8:28 📖

All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Genesis 12: 10 - 20

¹⁰Now there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to dwell there, for the famine was severe in the land. ¹¹And it came to pass, when he was close to entering Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “Indeed I know that you are a woman of beautiful countenance. ¹²Therefore it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, ‘This is his wife’; and they will kill me, but they will let you live. ¹³Please say you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that I may live because of you.”

¹⁴So it was, when Abram came into Egypt, that the Egyptians saw the woman, that she was very beautiful. ¹⁵The princes of Pharaoh also saw her and commended her to Pharaoh. And the woman was taken to Pharaoh’s house. ¹⁶He treated Abram well for her sake. He had sheep, oxen, male donkeys, male and female servants, female donkeys, and camels.

¹⁷But the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife. ¹⁸And Pharaoh called Abram and said, “What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she was your wife? ¹⁹Why did you say, ‘She is my sister’? I might have taken her as my wife. Now therefore, here is your wife; take her and go your way.” ²⁰So Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him; and they sent him away, with his wife and all that he had.

Here we see Abram asking Sarah to tell others that she is his sister because she was beautiful and he didn't want to be in trouble because of her. This request must have been heartbreaking for Sarah, as her own husband, whom she had trusted, was asking her to do this! Nevertheless, Sarah obediently complied, despite the knowledge that she might be taken to Pharaoh's house.

But we read in the next verses how the Lord protected her. This incident serves as a reminder that in our own lives, there may be situations where our loved ones or dear ones abandon us for their own benefit. However, it is important to always remember that if we place our trust in the Lord and depend on Him, He will protect us. He is the one who will never leave us nor forsake us, and He will deliver us in ways we could never imagine.

Take away:

¶ Be obedient

¶ Don't be discouraged if your friends or dear ones leave you alone. You have God who will never leave you nor forsake you.

¶ Trust in the Lord and depend on Him for your deliverance.

Verse for the day:

📖 Deuteronomy 31:8 📖

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.

📖 1 Peter 5:7 📖

Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
