★ *Lessons from the life of Joseph - 9*
_*"God meant it for good"*_
*Genesis 45, 50: 15-21*
Here, in these passages, we see Joseph revealing himself to his brothers, and within these verses, we uncover remarkable qualities in Joseph—his unwavering faith, humility, forgiving nature, ability to see God’s hand in every situation etc. These traits not only shaped his response to adversity but also provide valuable lessons for us to follow in our own lives.
From being hated by his brothers and sold into slavery to becoming a ruler in Egypt, Joseph's journey reveals the profound truth of his words: "You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good" (Genesis 50:20).
Joseph’s perspective on life was extraordinary. While many might see only the pain of betrayal, false accusations, and imprisonment, Joseph saw God’s hand at work behind the scenes. Instead of dwelling on his sufferings, Joseph recognized that every event, no matter how painful, was part of God’s plan to bring about good. This mindset teaches us to trust in God’s sovereignty, even when life feels overwhelming.
Joseph’s ability to forgive his brothers is one of the most striking aspects of his character. Despite their hatred and betrayal—selling him into slavery and causing years of suffering—Joseph harboured no bitterness. In Genesis 45, he reassures his brothers: "It was not you who sent me here, but God." He not only forgave them but also provided for them generously, giving them the best of Egypt and promising to care for them and their families. His actions reflect a heart that overcame evil with good, trusting that God’s plans were far greater than human wrongdoing.
Joseph’s humility is evident in how he credited God for his success. He was acknowledging that every blessing and breakthrough was orchestrated by Him.
Another remarkable aspect of Joseph’s life is how he overcame evil with good. His brothers stripped him of his multicoloured coat—a symbol of favoritism—but Joseph gave them new clothes, symbolizing reconciliation and grace. They indented to kill him, threw him into a pit, but Joseph lifted them from despair, offering them hope, forgiveness, and provision.
Joseph’s declaration, "God meant it for good," reminds us that no matter how dire our circumstances may seem, God can use them for His glory and our good. His life encourages us to trust God’s timing, forgive those who wrong us, and keep our focus on His higher purpose.
Joseph’s journey assures us that even when life feels out of control, God is always at work, weaving a story of redemption and grace.
