★ *Forget Not His Benefits!*
We often celebrate God's blessings in good times, but how easily we forget them when trials come!
In Mark 8:14-21, we see Jesus warning His disciples about the leaven of the Pharisees and Herod. However, because the disciples had forgotten to bring bread, they began reasoning among themselves, thinking Jesus was referring to their lack of food. Hadn’t they just recently witnessed Him feed thousands with only a few loaves? Yet, they failed to remember those miracles and, as a result, didn’t even consider that Jesus could provide for everyone in the boat with the one loaf they had.
What makes this moment even more significant is that Jesus wasn’t even talking about bread! He was warning them about the “leaven” of the Pharisees and Herod—their false teachings and hypocrisy. But the disciples were so focused on their physical need that they missed the deeper spiritual lesson. Knowing their thoughts, Jesus asked:
"Do you still not understand?" (Mark 8:21)
"And do you not remember?" (Mark 8:18)
We see this pattern throughout the Bible—people forgetting God’s provision even after witnessing His power:
The Israelites saw God part the Red Sea, yet they still doubted His provision in the wilderness (Exodus 16). Elijah saw fire fall from heaven, yet he ran in fear from Jezebel (1 Kings 19).
This happens in our lives too. When challenges come, we panic and focus so much on the problem that we fail to see what God is trying to teach us. We stress over finances, health, and the future, forgetting how He carried us through the last time.
Let us not forget His benefits. Instead, let us remind ourselves of how God has led us thus far and seek to understand what He is teaching us in every circumstance.
*Take Away:*
¶ Let’s not be so focused on the problem that we miss what God is trying to teach us.
¶ Instead of worrying when challenges come, let’s focus on His past faithfulness to strengthen our trust.
