MISSIONARY STORY

D. L. Moody

D.L. Moody is a famous American evangelist who lived in the 19th century. D. L Moody is a blessed man of God who has engaged in many missionary activities and touched countless lives with his passionate preaching and tireless dedication to spreading the gospel.

He was born in Massachusetts, Northfield on February 5, 1835. His mother raised him and his siblings very hard, having lost their father at a very young age. The connection with his uncle at the age of seventeen led to spiritual changes in Moody's life. Moody's uncle was a cobbler and a shoemaker. His uncle sent Moody to sunday schools and Moody attended them very happily. There was a teacher named Edward Kimball. One day, on April 25, 1855 to be exact, Edward came to Moody's shop to see him. That meeting ended up being the reason for Moody's rebirth in Christ. Moody believed the Lord and was saved. (History books also say that after 17 years it was Moody who led this Edward Kimball's son to salvation.) Moody was very happy after his new life in the Almighty. A month later he applied for membership in Mount Vermont Church. It is said that Moody lost his membership at that time because he could not answer the committee's questions accurately and then a few years later Moody got his membership.

By the time he was 19, Moody was a hard-working young man and a budding Christian. At that age, he had a desire to teach a Sunday school class on North Wells Street. For that, Moody asked his superintendent for an opportunity, but got a disappointed answer from the superintendent that there are enough teachers according to the number of children. But Moody was not ready to give up. He decided to start his own Sunday school class and started working hard for it. The next Sunday, Moody came to the church with about 18 children. Moody says that it was one of the happiest Sundays of his life. By 1859, the number of children had increased to a thousand. In 1860, Abraham Lincoln, who was the American president at that time, visited Moody's Sunday School. But in 1859, Moody learned a new lesson. This experience was a turning point for his future evangelical work.

At that time, one of Moodi's teachers was suffering from tuberculosis. It was the time when he was close to death. This teacher had a last wish to achieve before his death. Before his death, the teacher wanted all his students to believe in the Lord and become saved. But he was so exhausted by his illness that he did not have the strength or health to visit and talk to all the children personally and Moody helped him. Moody accompanied the man to visit all the children in their homes and preach the gospel to them. They visited every house in 10 days and saw success in their efforts. They were able to win all those children for Christ and lead them to salvation. Finally, when the teacher bids farewell and returns to his mother's house, all these children arrive at the railway station to send him off. This experience had a profound effect on Moody. This event was an inspiration to bring many souls to Christ.

When Moody realized that remaining as a businessman with only profit in mind is actually a loss, and the business that Gid counts is gaining souls, Moody decided to work only as a hardworking worker of God.

May his inspiring life events encourage us.
