Return to the Lord!

Nehemiah 1: 5-9

⁵ Then I said: "O LORD, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and obey his commands,

⁶ let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my father's house, have committed against you.

⁷ We have acted very wickedly toward you. We have not obeyed the commands, decrees and laws you gave your servant Moses.

⁸ "Remember the instruction you gave your servant Moses, saying, 'If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations,

⁹ but if you return to me and obey my commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for my Name.'

Each one of us has likely experienced a period in our lives when we drifted away from God, losing that deep connection and genuine relationship with Him, causing the true joy of fellowship to fade. There can be various reasons for this, but sin often stands as the primary culprit leading us astray.

In this passage, we read about the divine attributes of our God. He is great and awesome, faithfully keeping His covenant of love with those who love Him and obey His commands. He is the God of Heavens who redeemed Israel by His great strength and His mighty hand.

Sadly, we also read that Israel sinned and turned away from the Lord. They acted wickedly, didn't obey the commandments, and were unfaithful.

However, amid Israel's moral shortcomings, there shines a beacon of hope. God assures that if His people return to Him and obey His commands, He will gather them from the farthest corners and establish them in the place He has chosen. This promise reinforces the idea that God's grace and mercy are available to those who turn back to Him.

If you ever feel as though you've taken ten thousand steps away from God, remember that it only takes one step back to return to Him. He waits patiently for your return. Acknowledging your transgressions and recognizing the necessity of reconciliation are essential steps.

At this point, let us also remember that we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Sin caused mankind to be separated from God, and death came as punishment. However, God lovingly provided a way of reconciliation. He sent His own Son, Jesus Christ, to offer Himself as the sacrifice for our sins, dying on the cross.

Anyone who confesses their sins, believes in Jesus Christ and His resurrection on the third day, and accepts Him as their personal Lord and Savior, shall be saved and will be granted the gift of eternal life.

Take away:

¶ Regardless of our circumstances, we can always choose to return to the Lord. We can confess our sins, seek His guidance, and trust in His promises of restoration.

¶ Confess your sins and be saved.

📖 Verse for the day 📖
