Lessons from the life of Hannah

When we examine the pages of Holy Scripture, we could find the list of heroes of faith, and the history of those who received strength through faith in weak situations. Among them, Hannah has a special place. She is one among the two wives of Elkanah. The name of the other wife is Peninnah. Peninnah had children. But Hannah doesn’t have children. God has shut the womb of Hannah.
The spiritual lessons from the life of Hannah is the main theme of this devotion.
1. Hannah had one adversary. 1 Sam . 1:6.:- Since God had shut the womb of Hannah, the accuser of Hannah made her sad. But Hannah didn’t become weak in faith. Even we have an accuser. He is satan. Our accuser will be continuously trying to make us weak (1.Peter 5:8). as a roaring lion, satan is trying to swallow us. May God help us to progress in faith and resist the accuser, as Hannah.
2. Decision of Hannah:- Hannah had made a decision or promise in front of God. If “thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child. She didn’t make only the promise, but she fulfilled it. For that she had to pay a great price. King Jephthah, who is mentioned in the book of Judges (11:30-39) had a similar experience. We are making many promises, but we are failing to fulfill them. This is not pleasing to God (Ecc.5:4,5). Better is that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. May God help us to fulfill the promises which we had done with God.
3. Prayer of Hannah :- The prayer of Hannah makes her life a special one. In spite of her trials, Hannah didn’t backside from her prayer life. Even though she had many possibilities of going backward in her prayer life, she didn’t go backward in her prayer and spiritual life. Because of the deep sorrow situation, the voice of her prayer wasn’t heard outside. The power of her prayer is very great. I hope that, she would have prayed even after submitting her son to the church. Because of that Samuel became a great prophet. Lets remember our children and pray regularly. It will help them to stand firm in faith and do great things. Let the life of Hannah be a great inspiration. May God help us.
