John 15:2 (“He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.”)
Have we given over to "pruning"?
Beloved! We all know that "pruning" is painful. When a branch is cut, the tree will surely suffer. Pruning, in other words, is a cut. When we get injured we have pain, we lose blood and so on. If we associate this kind of pruning with our life, have we not had some such pains and losses in our lives! It is never for our bad. Because a farmer or a gardener is someone who expects that the tree he planted will bear fruit. Then the Word says "everything that does not bear fruit he takes away". But he cuts the ones which bears fruit, because it is to bear more fruit. So in our lives God also allows some 'pruning' or some painful experiences so that we can bear more fruit the way the farmer wants us to. If we think a little more deeply, the gardener has a good conviction that we are fruit bearers. That is why we are 'pruned'. And what does not bear fruit is removed or destroyed. In this way, when God does not remove us but allows some difficulties and some sorrows in our lives, we should not feel sad, but say "thank you God for the assurance you have on me that I will bear fruit", and praise God, and pray for grace to sing even in hardship! May God help us more and more to become those who bear more fruit for God through such "prunings"!
